Write with the Pulse editor

Create documents, get AI suggestions you accept or reject word by word, publish to your knowledge and export.

The editor is where you write with Pulse beside you. You can ask the assistant about your document. You can also ask for suggested edits, which arrive as a diff you review, so nothing changes unless you accept it.

Open it from Editor in the Pulse sidebar, or go to pulse.oroe.ai/editor.

Start a document

The editor has two sections: Your documents and Start a document. There are three ways to start:

Option Button What it does
Blank document New document Starts from nothing.
From an uploaded document Create editable copy Makes a new, separate editable copy of a file already in your library. The original never changes.
From sources Create and draft Pulse drafts a first version from the knowledge collections you pick.

A blank document

  1. Select New document.
  2. Give it a Title.
  3. Under Who can see it, choose Workspace (everyone can read it, and you and the owner can edit it) or Personal (only you).
  4. Select Create.

A copy of an uploaded document

  1. Select Create editable copy.
  2. Choose the file under Uploaded document.
  3. Select Create editable copy.

Headings, paragraphs, lists and tables come across. Layout, images and exact formatting do not. A document has to finish processing in the library before you can copy it.

A first draft from your sources

  1. Select Create and draft.
  2. Enter a Title and describe What should it cover?
  3. Pick the collections to draw on.
  4. Select Create and draft.

The document is created first. The draft then arrives as a suggestion you review, and nothing is written in until you accept it. Any statement the sources don’t support is listed for you to check.

Write and format

The toolbar covers the basics:

  • Bold, italic, underline, strikethrough and inline code.
  • Heading 1, Heading 2 and Heading 3.
  • Bulleted and numbered lists, quotes, code blocks and horizontal rules.
  • Tables, with buttons to add columns and rows.
  • Links. Only http, https and mailto addresses are kept.

Pulse saves automatically a couple of seconds after you stop typing. You can also select Save. The status beside it tells you where you are, for example Saving…, Saved — revision 4 or Unsaved changes.

Note The editor has no image support. Pasted content is cleaned, so only the formatting the editor supports survives.

Page size

Use the Page menu to set the page width: A4 (the default), Letter, Legal, Tabloid, Web page or Full width. This sets how wide the page is while you write. The document scrolls as one continuous page, and there are no margin or orientation settings.

Good to know Your page choice is remembered in this browser only.

History

Every save is a revision. Select History to see them. Each revision has Preview and Restore.

If someone else changes the document while you’re editing, Pulse tells you. You can Reload latest or Keep mine on top of latest. Either way, nothing is thrown away, and the other version stays in the history.

Ask the assistant

The assistant dock sits on the right. Select Assistant in the header to show or hide it.

  1. Type a question in Ask about this document…, or start with Summarise this document or What is unclear?
  2. Select Ask.
  3. To use an answer, select Insert at cursor, or Copy it.

If you select some text first, the selection travels with your question. You also get an Improve the selection shortcut.

The assistant never changes your document on its own. The conversation in the dock is not saved.

Give the assistant sources

Open the Sources tab in the dock and pick the knowledge collections this document should draw on. Then select Save sources. When the document has sources, tick Search this document’s sources and cite them to get cited answers.

Good to know On a long document, the assistant reads the first part of the text, about 12,000 characters. For long documents, select the passage you’re asking about.

Get suggested edits

Suggested edits live in the AI suggestions panel under the toolbar.

  1. Place your cursor in a paragraph or select a passage. The panel tells you which blocks the suggestion will apply to.
  2. Choose Rewrite, Shorten, Expand or Summarize selection. You can also pick a tone under Change tone and select Apply tone.
  3. To answer from your documents instead, describe what the passage should answer, pick a collection and select Answer from sources.

Review a suggestion

Each suggestion shows the Current text beside the Suggested text. Added words are highlighted and removed words are struck through. A summary line such as “Added 12 words, removed 5 words.” tells you the size of the change.

If the suggestion cites sources, they’re listed under Sources this text cites. Anything worth double-checking, like numbers, prices or claims the sources don’t support, appears under Claims to check.

  • Select Accept to apply the whole suggestion as a new revision.
  • Select Reject to discard it.

Note You accept or reject a suggestion as a whole. To keep only part of it, accept it and then edit the text yourself.

Publish to your knowledge

Drafts are never searchable. When a document is ready, you publish it into a collection so chat can answer from it and cite it.

  1. Open the Knowledge bar under the toolbar.
  2. Pick a collection.
  3. Select Publish current revision.

Publishing saves a fixed version. If you keep editing, the bar shows Unpublished changes, and knowledge keeps answering from the version you published. Select Re-publish current revision when you want the new text used.

Citations to an older published version keep pointing at that version.

Each publication shows its status, such as Indexing — not searchable yet or Published and searchable. Select Withdraw to take it out of a collection.

Good to know To publish, you need to be able to edit the document and manage the collection.

Export

Use Export .md, Export .html or Export .docx at the top of the editor.

  • Markdown and HTML download straight away.
  • Word first shows what the file keeps and what it does not. Links become text followed by the address, for example. Select Download .docx to continue.

Note PDF export isn’t available.

Import Markdown or HTML

Writers can select Import, choose Markdown or HTML, paste the content and select Create document. Import creates a new document and leaves the open one alone.

Limits

  • A document can be up to 2 MB of content.
  • The toolbar offers three heading levels.
  • Only the document’s author or the workspace owner can edit a workspace document. Everyone else sees “You can read this document but not change it.”
