Documents and folders

Upload files to your library, sort them into folders, check they're ready and read them in the viewer.

Your document library is where Pulse keeps the files it can answer from. Upload contracts, handbooks, policies and manuals, sort them into folders, and then ask about them in chat.

Open it from Documents in the Pulse sidebar or at pulse.oroe.ai/documents.

What you can upload

Type Files
PDF .pdf with a text layer
Word .docx
Text .txt
Markdown .md
CSV .csv, .tsv

Pulse reads up to 2,000 pages of a document. Pages beyond that aren’t read.

Note Pulse reads the text inside a file. It can’t read scanned pages or photos of text. A PDF that is only scanned images has nothing to search, so it shows as Failed. Password-protected PDFs and older .doc Word files can’t be read either.

Upload files

  1. Open Documents.
  2. Select Upload files and choose one or more files. You can also drag files onto the list.
  3. Each file shows its upload progress. When it’s done, it appears in the list as Processing.
  4. Wait for the status to change to Ready to ask. The page updates by itself.

Where the files go:

  • From All files or My documents, uploads go into My documents.
  • From inside another folder, uploads go into that folder.

If a file is too large, or won’t fit in your remaining storage, Pulse tells you when you upload it.

File status

Status What it means
Processing Pulse is reading the file. It can’t be searched yet.
Ready to ask The file is ready. You can tick it in chat and ask about it.
Failed Pulse couldn’t read the file. Hover over the status to see why.

Tip If a file fails, check that it isn’t a scan, isn’t password-protected, and opens normally on your computer. Then delete it and upload it again.

Organise with folders

Folders are how you group documents for asking. In chat, you tick a whole folder to ask about everything in it. A file can be in more than one folder.

The Folders list on the left shows All files, My documents and any folders you create, each with a file count.

Create a folder

  1. Select New folder.
  2. Enter a Folder name.
  3. Select Create folder.

Add files to a folder

  1. Tick one or more files, or use the Add to folder button on a file’s row.
  2. Choose the Folder. You can also pick New folder… here.
  3. Select Add.

Remove a file from a folder

Open the folder, then select Remove from this folder on the file’s row. The file stays in All files and in any other folder it’s in.

Rename or delete a folder

Open the folder and select Rename or Delete folder. Deleting a folder keeps its files. They stay in All files and any other folders they’re in.

Manage files

Each file row has buttons to open, rename, add to a folder and delete the file. Tick several files to act on them together.

  • Rename changes the name shown in Pulse. The stored file isn’t changed.
  • Delete removes the file. It can no longer be asked about, and older answers that cited it won’t open the source any more.

Note Only the person who uploaded a file, or the workspace owner, can rename or delete it. The same goes for folders and their creators. Everyone in the workspace can see workspace files.

Read a document

Select a file’s name to open it in the viewer. You can open it once Pulse has read the file.

  • PDFs show as the original pages. Use Zoom in, Zoom out and Fit to width, and see which page you’re on.
  • Word, text and Markdown files show the text Pulse extracted, page by page. Their original layout isn’t shown.
  • CSV files show as one sheet named after the file, with the rows in tables. Values appear exactly as they are written in the file. Very large files show the first 2,000 rows and 40 columns cell by cell, and summarise the numbers in the rest of each column.
  • Outline on the left lists the document’s headings. Select one to jump to it.
  • Open original opens the file exactly as you uploaded it, in a new tab.

When you arrive from a citation in chat, the cited passage is highlighted. If there are several, use the arrows to move between them. See Cited answers.

If the viewer says This document has no readable text, Pulse found no text in the file. It may be a scan, or it may still be processing.

Ask about your documents

Questions about your documents are asked in chat, not in the library. Switch on Documents in the chat header and tick the folders or files you want. See Cited answers.

Tip You can also upload straight from chat. In the Documents panel, select Upload file, and the new file is ticked for you.
