Coming soon and maintenance modes
Put a holding page in front of your website before launch or while you make changes, and still walk through the real site yourself with a private preview.
Three ways your website can appear
Go to Cue Pages > Website > Visibility. Under What visitors see, choose one:
| Mode | What visitors get | Use it when |
|---|---|---|
| Live | Your pages, as published. | Normal running. |
| Coming soon | A holding page. Good before launch. | You’re building your site and want the address to show something friendly. |
| Maintenance | A short notice. Search engines are asked not to index it. | You’re making larger changes and want to take the site down briefly. |
Switching modes doesn’t unpublish anything. The holding page simply stands in front of your pages until you switch back to Live.
Turn on a holding page
- Go to Website > Visibility.
- Select Coming soon or Maintenance.
- Fill in The holding page (all optional):
- Heading, for example “Coming soon” or “Down for maintenance”.
- Message, in plain text. Line breaks are kept.
- Image, shown above the heading, or as the full background if you choose that below.
- Background: Your theme, Light, Dark, Brand gradient or Your image, full bleed.
- Show your logo, which uses the logo from General.
- Add any Extras you want:
- Launch date & time, with Count down to it to show a live countdown in days, hours, minutes and seconds.
- A button, using Button label and Button link, for example “Follow us” linking to your Instagram. The button appears only when both are filled in.
- Contact email, shown as a button visitors can use to email you while the site is closed.
- Show the social links from SEO & Social.
- Select Save Changes. The holding page goes up straight away.
Anything you leave blank falls back to sensible wording and your website’s own logo, colours and fonts.
Tip In the sidebar, a small amber dot next to Visibility reminds you that your website isn’t in Live mode.
Preview the real site
While a holding page is up, you can still see and check your real website.
- Select Preview the real site under Visibility, or Preview real site at the top of any website settings page.
- Your website opens in a new tab, exactly as visitors will see it once you go live, on your own domain if one is connected.
- A dark bar along the bottom reminds you that visitors are seeing your holding page. Select Exit preview to see what they see.
Your preview lasts for 8 hours. After that, select Preview the real site again to start a new one.
Good to know Each preview is signed and tied to your website, so it can’t be guessed or reused for anyone else’s site. Anyone without a preview simply sees your holding page.
Go live
- Go to Website > Visibility.
- Select Live.
- Select Save Changes.
Your pages are back straight away. Your holding page settings are kept, so it’s quick to use them again next time.
