Custom fields
Choose which built-in fields Nest shows and add your own fields to store the details that matter to your business.
Where fields are managed
Open Settings, then Field Configuration. You’ll find two things there:
- Built-in fields – the fields Nest comes with, which you can show or hide.
- Custom Fields – fields you add yourself.
Show or hide built-in fields
Switch a built-in field off and it disappears from your contact forms. Switch it back on at any time and it returns.
Note Name, Email and Phone are locked. Every contact needs them, so they can’t be hidden.
Add a custom field
- In Settings → Field Configuration, go to Custom Fields and select Add Field.
- Enter a Field Name, for example “Membership number”. The Field Key fills itself in from the name.
- Pick a Field Type:
- Text – a short line of text.
- Textarea – a longer block of text.
- Number – a numeric value.
- Date – a calendar date.
- Select – one choice from a list.
- Multi-select – several choices from a list.
- Checkbox – yes or no.
- URL, Email or Phone – checked to make sure they look right.
- For Select and Multi-select, type the Options separated by commas, for example
Bronze, Silver, Gold. - Tick Required field if every contact must have a value.
- Save the field.
Your new field appears on the Custom Fields tab when you add or edit a contact.
Switch a field off or delete it
Each custom field has an on/off switch. Switching it off hides it from your forms without losing anything already stored. You can also delete a field.
Good to know Custom fields can’t be edited once created. If you need to change a name, type or option list, add a new field and switch the old one off. Only delete a field when you’re sure you don’t need the values stored in it.
Tip Tron’s research agent can fill in custom fields for you when it looks into a contact. See Nest with Cue and Tron.
