Watch a page for a keyword

Get an email when a word or phrase appears on a web page, or disappears from it.

When to use a keyword monitor

An uptime monitor tells you a page is reachable. A keyword monitor tells you what the page says. Use one when you care about a specific word or phrase, for example:

  • “In Stock” appearing on a product you’re waiting for.
  • “Sold out” disappearing from a supplier’s page.
  • Your own “Book now” button text vanishing after a site change.

Create a keyword monitor

  1. Open https://pinwatch.oroe.ai/keyword. This is the Keyword Monitors list.
  2. Select Create Monitor. You’ll land on Create Keyword Monitor. You can also go straight to https://pinwatch.oroe.ai/keyword/create.
  3. Under Basic Information, fill in Monitor Name, for example “Product Availability Tracker”.
  4. Enter the Target URL, the full address of the page, for example https://example.com/product.
  5. Choose a Check Interval: 5 min, 15 min, 30 min, 1 hour or 6 hours. 15 min is selected by default.
  6. Under Keyword Configuration, type your phrase into the keyword box and select Add. You can also press Enter.
  7. Under Alert Condition, choose one:
    • Keyword Appears alerts you when the phrase shows up on the page.
    • Keyword Disappears alerts you when the phrase is no longer on the page.
  8. Under Notifications, leave Email ticked.
  9. Select Create Monitor.

You’ll see “Keyword monitor created successfully!”. The monitor shows Never checked until its first check, then Watching.

Tip Use one phrase per monitor. If you add several phrases to the same monitor, PinWatch looks for them joined together as one piece of text, which is rarely what you want. Create a separate monitor for each phrase instead.

How matching works

  • PinWatch fetches the page and searches it for your exact phrase.
  • Matching is exact, including capital letters. “In Stock” won’t match “IN STOCK” or “in stock”.
  • It searches the page as it’s delivered to the browser, including its HTML. Text that a page draws in later with JavaScript may not be there when PinWatch looks.
  • Only the first 2 MB of a page is read.

Good to know A keyword alert only fires when the answer changes. If “In Stock” is already on the page when you create a Keyword Appears monitor, you won’t get an alert. You’ll get one the next time it goes away and then comes back. The very first check never alerts, because there’s nothing to compare it with yet.

Where alerts go

Keyword alerts go to the email address saved in Notification Settings, not to an address on the monitor itself. Make sure that address is set before you rely on a keyword monitor. See Set up email alerts.

Check what PinWatch saw

Open the Keyword tab on https://pinwatch.oroe.ai/monitors, or the list at https://pinwatch.oroe.ai/keyword, and select View Details on the monitor’s card. On the monitor’s page:

  • Keyword, Changes Detected, Check Interval and Last Change sit across the top.
  • Tracked Value shows the Current and Previous result. For appear and disappear checks, you’ll see whether the phrase was present or absent.
  • Configuration lists the monitor’s settings. Event History lists what happened and when.

Note If the page itself can’t be reached, the keyword monitor records a failed check but doesn’t send an alert. To hear about a page going offline, add an uptime monitor for it too.
